EJ Manuel Vs. Eli Manning

Hey Bills fans, this is my first time posting here, though I've used this site a lot for Bills info. I'd like to make my first of hopefully many Fan Posts about EJ Manuel, and in particular, how his stats compare to Eli Manning's stats through his first eight games. Manning only played in nine games in 2004, getting to throw in eight of them. I read the article in the Buffalo News about EJ's rookie year and the comparisons to other rookies over the years, and thought I 'd go a little more in depth and focus on his and Manning's game by game stats. With that out of the way, I 'd like to get started...

EJ Manuel

18-27 150 yards 2 TD 0 INT

27-39 296 yards 1 TD 1 INT

19-42 243 yards 1 TD 0 INT

10-22 167 yards 1 TD 2 INT

11-20 129 yards 0 TD 0 INT

22-39 155 yards 1 TD 1 INT

20-28 245 yards 2 TD 0 INT

18-32 210 yards 1 TD 0 INT

145-249 1,595 yards 9 TD 4 INT 58% Completion

Eli Manning

3-9 66 yards 0 TD 0 INT

17-37 162 yards 1 TD 2 INT

6-21 148 yards 0 TD 2 INT

12-25 113 yards 0 TD 0 INT

4-18 27 yards 0 TD 2 INT

16-23 182 yards 2 TD 1 INT

19-37 201 yards 0 TD 1 INT

18-27 144 yards 3 TD 1 INT

95-197 1,043 yards 6 TD 9 INT 48% Completion

EJ threw for better yardage in all but one game, finished with more TD's, less INT's, and a higher completion rate. Even though I have given you all these game by game stats, the point is not to compare EJ to Eli. Their obviously two (very?) different Quarterbacks. The point is more so to prove that Quarterbacks can have up and down rookie years but come back to be a franchise guy. I don't know about you guys, but two Super Bowl's seems pretty nice to me!

It seems counterproductive to give up on a guy after not even a full year. I know the Bills have been searching for a franchise Quarterback since Jim Kelly left, but you have to give EJ a chance. Think about how many years the Giants would be set back if they had given up on Manning after one year (like I'm sure some Giants fans wanted).

To conclude, I don't have a crystal ball. None of us do. But EJ Manuel showed some good things, and I'm confident that he has the tools and he is the type of person to be the guy we've been looking for. It feels good to go into an offseason with a guy that I believe can lead us to the playoffs and possibly beyond. Thanks for reading and GO BILLS!

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.
