My first realization comes with an apology. I recently realized the Bills are not way below the cap (we are 19 mill. under I believe). I commented on a lot of posts that we were way below and with all the implications that would offer; sorry.
This was a hard pill to swallow because I was happier thinking we could shop as we saw fit. Finding impact players at last seasons holes will be much more difficult than I thought.
Second realization. I now believe we are keeping Thad Lewis as the back up. While most of you liked him there and expected this I did not. Considering now, that we don't exactly have the money to throw around on expensive alternative QBs. Considering also, even more so; the fact that we created two new offensive coaching positions. This does not happen very often. The Bills had planned (poorly) for veteran QB Kevin Kolb to offer guidance and a veteran presence for our number one pick. Well, obviously that did not work out to well. So, if you decided you were not going to get (and pay) a veteran QB what would you do to resolve the conflict?
I know Jim Hostler and Todd Downing were hired for more than being a experienced presence for Manuel, but in part; the two new coaches are here for just that reason. There should be way more help, way more planning and scouting, way more one on one time for the QBs come May and throughout the whole season. This would include better and more coaching and communicating during real live games.
Hopefully, it is a good plan and the current brain trusts and EJ Manuel turn out to be our long awaited football messiahs.
