About the only thing the mock draft sims are good at is forcing one to research later round prospects.
That said, here's my latest:
9 OT GREG ROBINSON AUBURN
41 TE AUSTIN SEFERIAN-JENKINS WASHINGTON
73 CB STANLEY JEAN- BAPTISTE NEBRASKA
105 RB CARLOS HYDE OHIO STATE
137 ILB LAMIN BARROW LSU
169 DE JOSH MAURO STANFORD
201 WR L’DAMIAN WASHINGTON MISSOURI
Obviously, I like Robinson and ASJ. I also am doing mock drafts with the assumption that OBD signs at least one Free Agent OG. There's a couple waiver wire OG's we picked up already like JJ Unga, so even if we don't have our starting LG right now, I think we have a potential backup already. Hopefully said backup is better than Legursky, who's play wasn't good enough for a backup in my opinion.
Stanley Jean-Baptiste seems like he'd be the ideal mid round CB to pick up for depth, especially as this transforms into a passing league. Robey was very good for us in the slot last year, but is undersized. I like Robey, but if Gilmore or McKelvin go down to injury, do you really want Robey trying to cover Gronk lined up in the slot, DeAndre Hopkins (cause we know he's not covering Andre Jonhson), Ashlon Jeffery (cause we know he's not covering Brandon Marshall), or Mike Evans (assuming the Lions pick him at 10 to put across from Megatron)? Or do we still want him on the field covering a smaller guy, with 6'3" CB with decent speed and safety help over the top covering that big #2 receiver?
Round 4. Hyde looks like a big bruising back. Is it reasonable to expect him to fall to round 4?
Round 5. Lamin Barrow, again, is it reasonable to expect him to fall to round 5? Some places are projecting him in round 3 or 4. Other places are saying he's a good athlete and not a good football player who doesn't tackle properly and will fall because of it. Of the two options, I'd rather have better athletes every single time. You can teach the football part. It's harder to make someone a better athlete. What I'd be most concerned about is "Is he a better option than Bradham/Moats." If so, I think that for a round 5 pick up that would be great value. LSU's got a decent program. His 40 time could hurt him possibly.
Round 6. I really don't know anything about Josh Mauro. Thoughts on him?
Round 7. Uh... anyway L'Damien Washington drops to round 7? For a 6'4" athlete with projected 4.40 40 time, who hauled in 10 TDs and just under 900 yards receiving, I don't see how he's teams are going to pass on him a combined 200 times. I mean seriously.
|WR||13 games||76 receptions||846 yards||11.1 ypr||11 TD||1 carry||76 yards|
|WR||13 games||50 receptions||893 yards||17.9 ypr||10 TD|
He's not an AJ Green, Calvin Johnson or Julio Jones. But a guy that can win some jump balls because he's a good athlete and can be developed, while still contributing in his Rookie season? Not sure you can ask for a whole lot more from a 7th rounder.
I think Stanley Jean-Baptiste and L'Damien Washington are worth more investigation, and should for sure be on OBD radar for middle and late round selections. We do need depth at CB and I know we want a big WR who can go up and get it. The question becomes where do you think these guys are going to land?
