As we know, the super bowl was pretty one-sided. Those who know me know 2 things:
1. I am not a huge Manning fan. Yeah, he's a hall of famer, but, he isn't in my top 10 QBs of all time. He's had the benefit of playing in a dome for most of his career and I don't know if I'd consider him clutch… and
2. I love defense and still believe that offense might get you to the super bowl, but, defense gets you championships. I have no doubt that Peyton Manning is better then Russell Wilson. Yet, the lesser QB won the SB. A great defense is hard to overcome when you have a QB like Wilson who can play within himself and not make any errors. He made a few nice passes and that was all he needed to do to win the game.
Which brings me to EJ. If Wilson can win a SB being a game manager then any QB can. EJ had one bad game (in terms of turning the ball over), so, if he can cut down on those that would be very good. I think EJ will get better. I think we have a defense that is only a few guys away from being elite, IF we have the right coach for them. All we can do is hope that our new coach is up to it.
I think it is easier to find quality defensive players in later rounds, look how Seattle has guys playing on defense who made an impact that ranged from first rounders all the way to free agents. I think Buffalo is very close to having that sort of defense. This draft and free agency period could be it. It is up to our stars to campaign to help get guys here.
I won't say a lot about Manning. Kelly had some awful SB games and one game doesn't define him.
Buffalo is built to have a great defense and a solid offense that doesn't turn the ball over. Just like Seattle, who crushed Denver TWICE this year. Sure one was preseason, but, they crushed them nonetheless. Seattle proved that defense wins championships (just like the Giants showed us twice). And both Manning and Brady will be a year older and closer to retirement.
The ERA of the Buffalo has started. Talos has made it so!!
