Today I read an article on the National Public Radio (NPR) website . The article discusses if it is time to pull back from using the racial slur "R**skins" when describing or talking about Washington's NFL team. So my question to the Buffalo Rumblers community is: Should we cease using the "R**skins" slur when referring to Washington's NFL team?
This article is not intended to debate whether or not it is a racial slur, the Native American Oneida Nation considers it such, and that is sufficient for purposes of this article. The Oneida's are a part of the WNY community. Here at BR we make an effort to monitor ourselves and not insult each other, as this is our community. Whether we know it or not, there may be Oneida's who read/contribute to this blog and are seeing this insulting slur.
I recommend we take proactive action and use alternate phrases to describe Washington's team. We often come up with creative identifiers for players, various team staff, and public personalities. How hard would it be to come up with an alternate descriptor for a football team we generally dislike anyway?
What do you say Rumblers?
