Empty Nest or This Byrd Has Flown

Hi Rumblers. I didn’t see a Fan Post about the Jairus Byrd situation, so I figured I’d throw one up. Here’s my analysis and prediction…

Everyone’s asking why the team wouldn’t tag & trade a valuable commodity? It’s bad business and reason to quit being a fan altogether, some are saying. Whoa. Here’s what I think happened…in three steps

#1. It takes two to tango…three, actually: The Bills, another team & Jairus Byrd. Assuming Byrd and another team are all primed for a trade, what would prevent the Bills from pulling the trigger and getting some (any) compensation? The partner. In other words, what if the Byrd camp will only agree to a trade with one specific team? And, what if that team happens to be in the AFC East?

The Bills do not want to be seen as the team that traded their Pro Bowl Safety to a divisional rival. They’d rather cut ties for nothing than suffer that indignity.

#2. Why not just tag him and let him linger? Well, what good would that really do in the long run? The price tag is up to $8.4M, and plantar fasciitis is a funny ailment; it can pop up any time. Do the Bills want to pay all that money for (potentially) 11 games and be in an even weaker leverage position in 2015 facing a steeper franchise price tag?

#3. Animus. It may be that the Bills front office is just sick of dealing with this negotiation. Maybe that’s something to hold against them, but I wouldn’t totally blame them either. Have you ever been in the midst of a bad break-up where you finally give up trying to get your favorite Celine Di…I mean Iron Maiden CD back? You know what I’m saying. Sometimes relationships are toxic and merely spending more time dealing with each other is counter-productive.

Prediction: Jairus Byrd signs with New England Patriots by May 1st.

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.
