A Round 1 Mock

Hey Rumblers,

Figured I would take a stab at a one round mock, just to get a feel for who might go where and who might be available in the 2nd. No trades in this one, since they're just too tough to predict.

1. HOU- Jadeveon Clowney- if they pass on him for Bortles I will LOL really, really hard

2. STL- Jake Matthews - I could see Robinson or Watkins, but I think Fisher goes with the polished product

3. JAX- Khalil Mack- potential DROY as Gus Bradley's LEO

4. CLE- Sammy Watkins- BPA pick, immediately gives them one of the premiere WR tandems in the league. I die a little bit inside right after this name is announced

5. OAK- Greg Robinson- far too talented to fall any further than this. Could just as easily go #2

6. ATL- Taylor Lewan- OTs tend to go a half-round too early...he's an elite physical talent and should be a good fit for a team that likes to throw it a lot

7. TB- Mike Evans- Ahhh Lovie Smith. The classic "old-school, defensive minded" coach move, bringing in McCown. You've got a talented second year guy who played better than any rookie QB last year, and you sign a 34 year old who's played 6 good games in his life and promptly hand him the starting job. Classic. Regardless, Evans will be able to catch some jumpballs across from VJax

8. MIN- CJ Mosley- Minny likes Mettenberger, or so I hear. Probably smart...no need to repeat the Ponder mistake. Zimmer needs a QB for his defense, Mosley is his guy

9. BUF- Eric Ebron- half will love this pick, half will hate it. Should make for an amusing comments section

10. DET- Justin Gilbert- kind of a cliched pick at this point, but they need help in the back half. Not my favorite corner, but his athletic talent is undeniable

11. TEN- Kyle Fuller- underrated press-man corner, will fit right in with what Horton wants to do in TEN. They need an OT as well but there's no value here with Lewan off the table

12. NJG- Aaron Donald- he's too good to fall further than this. Nice value here

13. STL- Ha Ha Clinton-Dix- I'm not this high on him, but I'm going off a rumor from Daniel Jeremiah here. How pumped are the Rams to have the 2nd and 13th picks in a draft this good???

14. CHI- Darqueze Dennard- Need some ammo in a division that's becoming pretty talented at WR

15. PIT- Kelvin Benjamin- Somebody is going to take a swing on this guy early...gives Ben the big target he's been missing for a while

16. DAL- Calvin Pryor- This makes too much sense to actually happen

17. BAL- Cyrus Kouaindjo- Banking on the Newsome-Bama connection, as well as a clean bill of health on that knee...but BAL's running game has been pathetic for 2 years now. Time to re-load up front. Kind of a surprise pick here

18. NJJ- Odell Beckham- Not pleased about this. REALLY good player...luckily it'll be Mike Vick throwing to him for 5 games, and then Geno Smith throwing...not "to" him..."towards him" I guess would be a better way to put it. Hopefully we can find someone to fill Byrd's role of getting hit in the chest by ill-advised Geno passes

19. MIA- Zack Martin- Ripped this right off of Drafttek...last thing I want to do on my day off is think about the Dolphins. Here ya go Miami, have an OLineman

20. AZ- Ryan Shazier- I think he's actually a value here. Almost gave him to MN at 8...AZ is high on him, and rightfully so. Bucannon is another option, Keim is looking to add length in the secondary. Hageman was also an option, but Shazier is the better player by quite a margin IMO

21. GB- Troy Niklas- Ted Thompson is always tough to figure out...going Niklas here for now. They got basically nothing out of their TE position last year

22. PHI- Anthony Barr- They tried to trade for Dion Jordan, so I'll give them a slightly better version of Dion Jordan

23. KC- Brandin Cooks- A field stretcher for KC...decent value here

24. CIN- Kony Ealy- Losing Michael Johnson was an underrated blow for their defense...Ealy is a good athlete and could be used situationally at first

25. SD- Bradley Roby- I don't even think they have a corner on their roster. High upside player here

26. CLE- David Carr- Yep, Carr's the first QB off the board in this mock. Rumor is they're high on him, and he's a better pure passer than any of the "Big 3". Will he be able to handle pressure in an NFL pocket? Cleveland is about to find out

27. NO- Xavier Sua'Filo- Kind of reaching on team needs here, I don't know much about the Saints. They get a talented, versatile OL that can play OT in a pinch

28. CAR- Allen Robinson- Blew the roof off his pro day, and plays angry. Should be able to handle being "the guy" in CAR...they take him over Marqise Lee

29. NE- Rashede Hagemann- Ridiculously talented, versatile, inconsistent DL. If the light comes on he's a Calais Campbell type player

30. SF- Marqise Lee- Man, mock drafts are tough. Anquan Boldin turns 53 this year, so they could use a WR..and Lee gives them a skillset they don't currently have at the postion

31. DEN- Joel Bitonio- An absolute steal here. Can probably be an upgrade over Orlando Franklin at RT, or he could slide into the OG spot vacated by Beadles. Tough, athletic, nasty OLineman. Great prospect. Almost gave him to KC a few picks ago

32. SEA- Cody Latimer- He's very Seahawk-y athletically, and re-signing Sidney Rice's corpse won't stop them from making this pick. Almost went with Moncrief, but SEA had Latimer in for a visit so that was the tiebreaker. If they pass on Latimer, look for OL here

So what did I learn? 1. Mock drafts are tough...anyone who does multiple-round mock drafts has my undying respect. 2. I just put 8 freaking WRs in the first round...and there's STILL a ton of talent on the board. Same story on the OL...7 of them went in this first round, and there are a ton of quality guys available in round 2. 3. There were a few guys I tried to get into the first round (Bucannon, Moses, ASJ, KVN) and I just couldn't do it. This draft class is nuts

So, with this first round, who do you think Buffalo should target at 41? There will probably be a good receiver on the board at 41, but I don't think that's an option with the additions of Mike Williams and Ebron. IMO the best value will be at OT, DE, or Safety. Feel free to bash my mock, my football knowledge, or me as a person in the comments!

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.
