The more I think about it the more I am convinced that the absolute best option for us would be to trade out of Rd1.
Let me explain my logic here. This draft is extremely deep at many positions that we could need. Let's all remember that we only have 6 picks this year. I highly doubt that Matthews, Robinson or Evans will be available to us at #9 - and the more I think about Ebron, I don't think he's that much better than ASJ or Niklas. The same way the difference between Lewan and Moses is not that huge either.
I would love to move 3-5 places back (And pickup an extra 2nd + a bit more) then move back again (to pickup yet another 2nd rounder & and a bit more). Maximizing 2rd picks would benefit us the most, we could run away with 3-4 new starters.
My reasoning is simple:
OT: Moses or James should be available and either one would be an instant starter at RT
TE: ASJ or Niklas should be available in Rd2, both are exactly what we are looking for at TE
CB: Gaines or Roby could still be on the board
RB: Carlos Hyde would be a great addition to our team. Hyde/Spiller for the next 5 years would be incredible.
QB: Aaron Murray – There’s nobody that I’d want more than Murray in Rd2, I want to give EJ another year as the uncontested starter but we need to hedge our bets and get another potential "franchise" guy in here to compete. If EJ doesn’t impress in 2014 then we have options in 2015 and we’re not starting over.
WR: Although I doubt Beckham would slide into Rd2 I do believe that both MONCRIEF as well as LATIMER would both be great additions in Rd2
From the above list, I believe that 90% of them could be day1 starters and would improve our team. So if we could parlay our 9th pick into 3xrd2 picks, plus with the extra stuff we get we could possibly trade back up into Rd2 to get a 4th pick. There will be riches to be had in Rd2 this year and I really am hoping that we trade out of Rd1 and maximize our picks in Rd2
So what say you Rumblers? Do you agree with me?
