I need to take a break from looking at draft prospects and mocks Rumblers. I want to pose a question to everyone regarding EJ Manuel...there seems to be some momentum with the fanbase for drafting a QB to come in and compete this year. I really don't think it's going to happen this year, but depending on EJs performance in 2014, I think all bets are off in the 2015 draft.
So my question to you is this: what do you need to see from EJ in 2014 to NOT consider drafting a QB in 2015? A playoff appearance (regardless of his stats and performance)? A Super Bowl win? Or are you a stats person that thinks if EJ throws for 4000 yards regardless of team record that he should be safe? Interested to see everyone's thoughts. For me, it comes down to two things...we need to make the playoffs, and EJ needs to take over a few games. It's a results league, and no playoffs should equal no job security for ANYONE. But I don't want EJ to Sanchez his way to a playoff appearance..I really want to see him take over a few games. I don't even care if it's against weak defenses, I want to see a couple 320+ yard, 3+ TD games from EJ. Not so much concerned about his stat line for the season, but he's got to show that he can put the team on his back and dominate games occasionally. His rookie year he looked like a more talented Trent Edwards (not necessarily a terrible thing for a rookie QB battling injuries) but we didn't draft him #16 to be a game manager.
Whaddaya think Rumblers? What does EJ have to do to lock up his job?
