This is why I love the move. The front office doesn't know what will happen with the sell of the team and I have no problem going all in. They put all their chips in with EJ and to make that work this is a major help. I don't expect someone who is fighting for a job to look past what needs to happen now which is the playoffs. I think they feel with Thad getting playing time and knowing the offense that if EJ does get hurt again they can still make playoffs happen. They know what they think can make that happen and went for it. It's a move that was needed and if it pans out then that first rounder we gave up will be low round and a slap in Pettine's face which is added bonus. It gives us some movement with Stevie/TJ/Goodwin as well. Ive got to assume they think we will get a 4th round pick for Byrd(not sure if that's how it works) but if we can trade any of them for a mid round pick then we have something for a trade to get late in the first round next year if we need it. I'm just happy we have someone who will need to be double covered and actually expand the offense. I truly hope this succeeds just because I don't know what's going to happen which makes me optimistic, unlike the last decade of let's do good enough to maybe not lose our job.
