It’s my semi-annual tradition to ask our community when we think the Bills will next make the playoffs.
When I asked this question in 2011, 83 percent said we’d make it within three years (2011-2013). Obviously, that didn’t happen.
Similarly, in 2013, 85 percent said we’d make it within three years. Not all of them have yet to be proven wrong. (Forty-one percent said we’ll make it into the playoffs this year.)
These polls have so far exposed our hopeless optimism, as we tend to believe we’re about to turn a corner within the next couple of years. But there is a staunch minority that has a gloomier outlook. In 2011, four percent of respondents said "the world will end or the NFL will collapse before the Bills make the playoffs." In 2013, five percent of respondents felt that way.
In each poll, I voted we'd make it in 2015. If Manuel proves to be worth his draft pick, making it in 2015 seems realistic. If not, we won’t have a chance to snag a first round QB until 2016, making 2018 a plausible playoff year for our yet-to-be named savior. But for now, I’ll stick with 2015.
Be sure to, in addition to participating in the poll, leave your prediction in the comment section so we can acknowledge your clairvoyance when we look back from the future.
