Mind Dump - Early 2014 TC

Now that training camp has started and i've been inundated with a ton of Bills coverage I have to get this stuff out of my head and onto paper. So here goes!

As always; please agree/disagree and share your thoughts in the comments section.

* Full disclaimer - a lot of my thoughts are coming from other sources. As in things media types or whoever said that has grabbed my attention for one reason or another.

1) Are the Bills getting smarter with their roster? Let's look at some examples.

A) Locking up Aaron Williams early.
B) Picking up Bryce Brown before Spillers contract year and Fred being 33. FWIW: Brown has under 300 carries in both the NFL and college combined.
C) Corey Graham for depth at CB, S and possibly starting CB...?

They do have a better roster so it should be easier to make moves but the front office is showing some foresight here.

2) Dareus - I said it last year and I'll say it again. Watch the press conferences after the Bills practices and watch how your coaches and fellow teammates are being bombarded with questions about you. You are being a distraction. Regardless of my thoughts on your transgressions you need to see how your actions are affecting the team.

3) Joe B mentioned that he's not sold on if the Bills are sold with Leodis. He had one good year last year. The Corey Graham signing gives the Bills good depth and possibly a new starter if Leodis doesn't continue his 2013 form.

4) Defensive issues. We've heard a lot lately about the Bills defensive issues but are they being over blown?

A) Dareus will be on the field and ready to go.
B) Byrd wasn't here last year early in the year and they played o.k. without him.
C) Losing Kiko hurts, big time. It's good that it happened early (I guess) but my optimism comes from being a 43 defense. It's not a tough defense to pick up and the Bills, at a bare minimum, should be able to find a player that at a bare minimum isn't a liability in the game.

5) Elite talent. This season, obviously, hinges on EJ Manuel. However, for the Bills to compete consistently they need their elite players on the field as much as possible. Here's the list of guys I think need to be on the field as much as possible. As in not injured and available all season long.

A) CJ Spiller
B) Sammy Watkins
C) Robert Woods
D) Cordy Glenn
E) Mario Williams
F) Kyle Williams
G) Marcell Dareus
H) Kiko Alonso
I) Aaron Williams
J) Stephon Gilmore

K) EJ Manuel

Not all of those guys are 100% proven (Gilmore, Spiller, Manuel) but they are the elite talent type players we need on the field as much as possible to give this team a chance to win.

6) I think when Doug Whaley said yesterday that EJ Manuel needs to be a game manager and in 5 years it'll hopefully be his team he's 100% right. The Bills are clearly loading up on talent in the run game and players like Watkins and Woods are excellent YAC type players. Manuel won't have to do a ton, but he'll have to do more than last year. And be available.

7) Are there elite WR's in our division? Decker? Amendola? Wallace? I think our secondary will be fine in the division.

8) As Joe B alluded to yesterday, the ownership situation is certainly affecting how the Bills are going about 2014. It's a bigger story than a lot of people have made it out to be. As far as the team building and urgency aspect of it is concerned.

9) This ones for Brian and Matt. Or for some poster who wants to do some homework. Can we have a daily (or whatever schedule you want) of Instagram video's that show plays during camp. There's a lot out there and for our posters who don't utilize Instagram it would be really cool just to click play in an embedded post and watch some good highlights. I think that'd be pretty awesome dudes.

10) Get better Cordy Glenn

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.
