People, They're Good.

Alright here I go. I have finally reached the most beautifully tragic time of year where I start to get really excited about my Buffalo Bills. The John Murphy over optimistic Bug his bitten me right in the A**. I mean like giddy school girl, boy obsessed, kind of excited. The kind of excited where you are getting up in the morning and realizing a PRESEASON game is occurring this sunday and you can't wait. Albert Einstein once said, "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results". Every year we bills fans get stabbed in the back by this team and we always see it coming, but to our own fault we guide the insertion point. You can recover from the wounds and slowly remove that knife. All it takes is a long winter, a few more beers, and a good enough showing by the Syracuse Orange. This year however I'm aiming a gun right to the back of my head. I'm not hoping for playoffs this year ladies and gentlemen. I am EXPECTING them. So, again here I go off the deep end where I tip toe the insanity line and I try to see 10-6 out of this team. First of all this is by far the deepest team on Offense they have had in the last 10 years. The talent level top to bottom at the skill positions is very good. Mike Wiliams is a very solid receiver with sure hands and he goes to the ball, he doesn't wait for it to come to him. Robert Woods already looks like a crafty veteran that is going to play for the next 15 years. I think EJ could throw to him with his eyes closed. Marquise Goodwin, the fastest player in the league without question. He finds separation on every route he runs and has a great ability to snatch the ball out of the air. Quite amazing for a man who is hampered by sickle cell anemia and asthma. Chris Hogan, ya know that white guy who made all those plays in OTA's?. Well, he is till making those plays. Chris Hogan 7/11, always open. No need to elaborate on that nutshell. Which then leaves us with Sammy Watkins. Most of you were probably appalled I didn't mention him first. However, I disagree. This kid deserves to go last. The most gifted receiver I have ever personally seen in my life. He has elite speed, he treats our corners like pop warner wannabes, and I think it might be harder to throw a pass out of his range, than it is to throw one in it. This kid didn't come to the NFL for money, he came for a challenge. Moving on to the offense line this year. This could be a wild card if Cordy Glenn isn't healthy, but I personally feel they have ridiculous depth with this group. The draft picks Cyril Richardson, Cyrus Kouandjio, and Seantrel Henderson are all beasts in every sense of the word. If Mr. Henderson can stay off the weed who knows how good he could be. All due respect I got his autograph at camp and he seems like a very innocent kid who needs guidance. Now, on to the running backs. I don't care, I will fight anyone tooth and nail on this subject. We have the deepest backfield in the league and it's not even close. Two words. Fred Jackson. The savvy veteran, the leader of this team, the man of impeccable character, a good heart and a strong mind. Not to mention an absolute natural on the field. Amongst all the bleeding, shoving, cursing men at the line there is not a more beautiful sight in the world then to ole Freddy Jackson gracefully slip out of that mess for a 10 yard run. Then there is CJ Spiller another player with Elite Speed and moves that will make you cry. We also added Boobie Dixon, Bryce Brown and no disrespect to Freddy or CJ, but Brown could end up being the best back on this team. So, theres the offense. Oh yeah, I'm forgetting someone aren't I. That kid from FSU, the leader to the promised land. EJ. To be quite frank I never thought EJ was ever going to make it. I saw him as a very raw athlete and never as a quarterback. The guy has has done his very best to prove me wrong. His intelligence is off the charts, his dedication to the game is quite impressive, and you will hear this over and over again, but he really does have all the physical tools. I think the work he puts in and the coaches unequivocal support of him are really going to propel him this upcoming season. I mean really what are we asking him to do? Hand the ball off to Freddy and CJ more often then not, get it some where in the vicinity of Mike Williams or Sammy Watkins, close your eyes throw the ball to Roby Woods on third down. Above all else, that X-factor, that monkey wrench, that "thing that could go wrong" is his health. He has got to be healthy. Because if he gets the injury bug again ladies and gentlemen crack open another cold one and roll dice on Tuel time.

Now a little stint on the Defense. First of all I would just like to comfort anyone who was effected by the tragic injury this year that occurred somewhere in Oregon. We all know his name. I can't bare to type it because I'll start thinking "what could have been?" which is the root of true insanity. That being said there is a big hole there, but I think we have brought in some players in to patch it up. Preston Brown looks he can play, Kieth rivers could be a diamond in the rough, and Nigel Bradham by all accounts should be most improved player on defense. We all know the line has got it together, if Marcel can also stay off the weed he could dominate. Again, no disrespect to that young man either. He has a good head on his shoulders and think last year with the passing of his brother hit him hard. Hell if I had lost a brother I'd probably smoke a joint or two myself. All three Williams brothers should dominate this season. Aaron will anchor the secondary. Byrd who?. Spikes (who looks like an Ork from Lord of Rings) should scoop up any little hobbits trying to make first downs up the middle. Leodis McKelvin was the most pleasant surprise last season. In my opinion his production came out of NO WHERE. A great athlete who finally put it together. Gilmore, being healthy this year should play like the number one corner all the analysts think he is. Some of you may be worried that we lost Pettine. I am not. Pettine was a great play caller with a knack for pressure. His defense had all the flashy stats, but how were we against the run last year folks? I think Swartz will fill the holes, close the gaps and give up less points. We will not have as many sacks, but I believe we will have the same pressure and more turnovers.

The man in charge is Doug Marrone. Who better a leader for this team, then a blue collar, no nonsense, offensive linemen from the 80's who doesn't take any crap. His media interviews (if you want to call it those) are perfect. I can't tell if the man is just completely oblivious or Bellicheck-esque. Either way its a thing of beauty. Doug is hard nosed and accepts nothing short of wining. All he says is "win" I don't think "losing" is on his radar. When he hears the word "lose", I think he assumes someone made a mistake and they meant to say "win". Thats exactly what you want in a head coach. All in all Bills Fans, take into consideration what was just written, its a lot I know. There have been a lot things going this past year, Ralph's passing, Jim Kelly, the team up in the air, Bon Jovi (F*** Bon Jovi), Kiko, and Andre getting inducted. It seems like a poetic beginning to a season of playoffs, lets hope its a poetic ending. Good Luck Bills fans, if it so happens try not to plant that knife so deeply this year because come on...theres always next year right?

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.
