In Defense of EJ... Poll Added, Please Vote!

I guess I just don't get it.

I love that fans are so passionate. That is great, and it's why Bills fans are so great. What I don't get is the fact that this fanboard has been poisoned by anti EJ sentiment. I keep searching for a reason why this happens, and why it irks me so much, but for the most part, I'm still searching. I just feel like I'm not watching the same games as some of you. What do you expect exactly? I really wish I knew...

Here are some of the things I'm thinking about this:

1.) The vast majority of quarterbacks either suck or are moderately effective in their first 1-3 years. Just because Russell Wilson (God bless his heart, I love him as a badger fan) was a sb winning qb early doesn't mean that's the rule, it's absolutely the exception. I see EJ playing better than Jamarcus, Leinart, VY, Tebow, etc. Many great quarterbacks apprentice for a long time under veterans in order to learn the craft.

2.) We are so used to being bad that we start to turn on ourselves and jump ship before we can actually EVER let anything play out. Granted, some of that was necessary in the case of some of our personnel in the Jauron Era or the Gailey Era, but I feel like Whaley has really been doing a better job here. I would love to see this all play out before we abandon the plan. We have had how many quarterbacks in the last 14 years? Too many is the answer. Almost NONE of them have had as much promise or raw talent as EJ has. So I ask you all... what would be the advantage of jumping ship at this point and playing a noodle armed backup QB or a veteran who has bounced around the league and already proven that they can't be more then a decent QB... when we already know that this is the ceiling for those players.

3.) What is your evidence that EJ hasn't been effective in games thus far. I'd say that he has kept us close or put us in a position to win MOST games that he has played. He was 4-6 last year. What I think isn't really considered is that 3 of those 6 losses were by 1 score or less. In that case, we are being put in a position to win. Remember the Carolina game? That was a game winning drive engineered by a 1st year QB, 1st year OC, etc. I've seen a lot more crunch time heroics from EJ than I've seen from any other QB we've had since Doug Flutie. That's SAYING SOMETHING! This dude was a rookie last year... and while Fitzmagic was decent late, sometimes he murdered us with late picks. I personally like that he's pretty smart with the ball, and until he learns to got through progressions better, that he isn't killing us with 4 INT games.

4.) The learning curve and experience required to be an effective NFL QB may be the longest one in sports. I just think it's a joke that people are seriously trying to say we should start Tuel instead of EJ. There's a reason personnel evaluators aren't agreeing with that. Patience is really necessary if you ever want to let a piece of this puzzle fit in.

5.) In the age of immediate gratification, my opinion is that people expect things to happen long before they can realistically happen. I am disappointed at the opinions that are frequently voiced around here, and just get tired of reading so much of the negativity. It's my fault. I stopped reading for a while, especially the comments, but since it's preseason and Bills hopes are high, I can't help it.

I guess some of you keep talking about this sick feeling you get about EJ. Well, the sick feeling I get in my stomach is about you, unfortunately. I just hope to hell that nobody in the organization reads your comments and actually takes anything seriously. I'm not a fan of WGR, and every time I read their stuff it feels like they're taking those same positions... that EJ is a failure already... and it feels to me like he's guilty until proven innocent. To me, the jury is still very much out on this one.

Sorry if this bothers anyone, but I'm just really sad that people don't feel the way I do about this.

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.
