Why the Bills need Pegula to become owner ASAP

Long time reader, first time poster, so bear with me please...

We can only hope and pray that Terrence M. Pegula wins the bid to own the Buffalo Bills. When/if (hopefully more of the when) the Bills will be set up for a much needed change. Pegula is a highly intelligent business man who surrounds himself with only the best minds in each of his endeavours. By taking a look at the Sabres model, we can begin to formulate what he will do with the Bills.

Step one: The takeover. "The only reason for the current existence of the Buffalo Sabres Bills will to be to win the Superbowl." Pegula is in this for one reason, to win it all. Not for a "good investment", "trophy team", whatever else other owners use. I know the NFL is a huge platform, and I am sure there has to be some ego to it, but wherever Pegula leaves his imprint we see the same thing. A formulated plan for success.

Step Two: Letting things run their course. Darcy Regier and Lindy Ruff had been GM and Head coach for over a decade and Pegula came in and let them try to prove themselves under his ownership. When it was apparent it was time for a change, Pegula made the decision to fire first the coach, and when the GM wasn't making progress with a new coach, both were released. Pegula let the current regime try to prove themselves, when it was apparent it was not the right fit he pulled the plug. I see him letting Whaley & Marrone be allowed the same liberties for the current season.

Step Three: Infrastructure for success. When looking for a new GM and coach, Pegula made a decision to bring in a past star and hockey mind, Pat LaFontaine, to come into the organization and establish some credibility. LaFontaine did not work out in the end, (I mostly blame LaFontaine for this, he did the same thing in the Islanders organization). even so, we hired highly respected asst. GM Tim Murray, to become the new GM of the Sabres. Ted Nolan was hired as what seems to be a mentor coach for the young stars we have been drafting ( I don't see this same model working for Bills as the NFL and NHL have completely different prospect timelines) and also to being some fans back to the rebuild. What see for the Bills is Jim Kelly, or another highly respected past HOF star being brought in to give us some credibility. For coaching and GM, Pegula will do his due diligence in using his braintrust, and Jim Kelly/HOFer input to hire the best money can buy...and trust me, Pegula will spend whatever it takes. He will also make out scouting department one of the largest and best in the business.

Step Four: Sit back and be a fan. As a sabres fan, the optimism for the teams future has never been so high. We have all the right pieces in place to become a NHL powerhouse in the next 3-4 years. The NFL is a little different as teams can turn around in the matter of a season. (Look to NFC West).

I know Pegula has not won anything yet with the Sabres, but I feel they will be a top team soon. We can only hope the Bills will take the same route under Pegula and become the powerhouse Western NY deserves. Cheers to the future Bills fans! We're gonna need a few drinks during this upcoming season

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.
