How to Fix the Bills Offense

The Bills need to be realistic: We have no passing game right now.

1) We can't pass block, because the OL has had constant changes and zero continuity

2) EJ clearly isn't ready to carry the team with a big-time passing game (in part because he's inaccurate, inexperienced and can't trust his line)

3) Sammy is hurt -- ribs are a terrible injury for a WR -- and he's still a ROOKIE. Mike Williams just got here;Woods is wildly inconsistent; Goodwin can't stay healthy; and no other WRs here can play.

4) Our best TE right now (Chandler) is a drop waiting to happen (or a fall down)... Gragg is promising, but totally raw.

5) Our best RB, Spiller, is a terrible pass blocker and is wholly underutilized in the screen game (assuming EJ is accurate enough to consistently complete screens, which is still a "maybe" at this point).

This crew is not going to be a big-time passing unit this year, OK?

So stop it.

What can be done?

Simplify the game.

Shorten the game.

Leverage our actual offensive strengths -- running back depth and big, young run blockers.

I'd start this line, day one, and play it for 16 games:

LT Glenn
LG Richardson
C Wood
RG Kuoandjio -- go watch the tape again, run blocks well, just gets crushed in pass pro right now
RT Henderson

I'd run it 50 times a game and throw it 20 times a game. Run Spiller, Fred, Booblie and Bryce all day.

You have a good defense -- maybe even a great defense -- right now.

But you have an atrocious passing game -- one that is a sack, penalty or turnover waiting to happen.

So... RUN THE DAMN BALL... focus there, and get really good at that again. The Bills could have a top 5-10 running game this year with this strategy... and take a ton of pressure off EJ, too.

I know this isn't sexy.

I know everyone is throwing the ball, and officials are throwing tons of flags to help the passing game.

I get it.

But we are not going to out pass Brady, Manning, Rivers, Luck, etc. in the AFC with this current crew.

We need to GET REAL and PLAY TO OUR STRENGTHS.

Unless you truly believe EJ is about to make the great leap forward. I see no evidence -- none -- to support that's about to happen.

Keep it simple.
