Jim Schwartz

I've posted in the past as a big Rex fan but after seeing more comments that don't make sense to me I'd like some clarification from Bills fans who have liked the team longer than me:

How would you be in a better position now if you had Jim Schwartz and his 4-3 defense?

First off, regarding last year, lets say you had Jim Schwartz. Towards the end of the year Bradham, Williams, Williams, and Gillmore were injured. That's 4 of your defensive starters. Plus its not a reach to say Mario Williams would not have been as good as the year before with another year under his belt plus no Kyle Williams. So you would not have gone anywhere anyways even if made playoffs (and probably would not have beaten Jets in last game). Also, not definite that you would have had Tyrod as quarterback as Rex may have been instrumental in getting him as he has always been huge fan of his, plus you don't know how much Rex influenced your great second round pick.

But now the real issue that I don't know how you could argue with. Let's say you had Jim Schwartz and you went 10-6 and made playoffs last year with same great defense (which can have very legitimate argument wouldn't happen). This year you let Mario Williams, Bradham, Hogan, Mckelvin and others go and THE TEAM STILL HAD NO MONEY UNDER THE CAP. So what are you going to do. Keep this great 4-3 defense together with Kyle and Mario Williams way into their 30's? Let Incognito and Cordy Glenn go in order to do this? This defense would have had to start over this year anyways, whether had Jim Schwartz or not.

Do I think Rex did a great job last year-no. But I know that team with all the injuries was not going anywhere regardless (and Rex did good job beating more talented Jets last game and I've seen him take less talented teams and compete a lot-see 8-8 Jets season with Geno Smith and Jeremy Kerley as Qb and #1 receiver) and I would rather have Rex fix defense than Jim Schwartz going forward.

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.
