Did anybody else catch Mike Sims-Walker spelling "T.O." after his TD catch? I was wondering what the heck he was doing.

Bills reach out to Cowher
The Buffalo Bills, who are expected to meet with Mike Shanahan this week about their head coaching position, have also contacted former Super Bowl-winning coach Bill Cowher, according to league sources.
Cowher informed the team that he is not interested in speaking to any clubs about potential jobs until after the season, however, according to the sources, and he could have several options available to him should he opt to return to coaching in 2010.
Bills' battered O-Line takes another big blow
We knew, as the Buffalo Bills entered the 2009 regular season, that the team's top-to-bottom re-structure of the offensive line was a huge question mark. Jason Peters had been traded. Derrick Dockery and Langston Walker had been released. Melvin Fowler and Duke Preston were unceremoniously allowed to test the free-agent waters. Demetrius Bell made a seemingly miraculous leap from 16-game healthy scratch to starting NFL left tackle, Geoff Hangartner was signed from Carolina, Eric Wood and Andy Levitre were drafted early, and Brad Butler moved to the position he manned in college.
Presto change-o! Buffalo had the NFL's most inexperienced offensive line. It was painfully clear that bumps in the road were expected - and they came in the form of drive-killing penalties and inconsistent blocking. But through it all, we decided by and large that it would be entertaining and interesting to watch these young guys develop as individuals and come together as one cohesive unit.
So much for that pipe dream. Through the first ten games of the season, Buffalo has been absolutely ravaged by injuries up front. They've been forced to field eight different line combinations during that time frame. The tackle position has been hit so hard by the injury bug that it's now affecting the guards; add in the latest and most brutal injury, a double fracture to Wood's lower left leg, and the verdict is simple. Buffalo can no longer hope to see tangible development from this offensive line. It is in complete disarray.
By the way, folks - Wood's surgery was successful. Seth McKinney, meanwhile, was lost for the season on Sunday as well. Buffalo now has one healthy guard - Levitre.

Jaguars 18, Bills 15: Week 11 Film Session
The Buffalo Bills dropped an 18-15 decision yesterday to the Jacksonville Jaguars, once again squandering a fourth quarter lead in defeat. Perry Fewell's Bills had many of the same problems that Dick Jauron's Bills had - which isn't surprising, as it's kind of the same team - but there was at least one major difference that's worth mentioning in this week's film session.
We've got eight topics of discussion in this week's film review. Let's get this over with, eh?
On Ryan Fitzpatrick. One might argue that Fitzpatrick had his best game as a Bill yesterday, and statistically, that's true. Fitzpatrick averaged 9.6 yards per attempt, completed 18 of 31 passes, and in general was smart with the football. That's why he's starting over Trent Edwards, folks - rarely does Fitzpatrick make the wrong read. In fact, I only saw him make one poor read in Jacksonville, checking down to an out route to Josh Reed when he had Terrell Owens wide open deep. T.O. let him know he missed him, and the two moved on amicably and hooked up to have a really solid day.
Fitzpatrick's big problem is simple: he just doesn't throw a good ball. I charted all 31 of Fitzpatrick's throws, and while this is completely subjective, I judged 16 of those throws (51.6%) to be inaccurately placed, whether they were caught or not. Overthrows, passes too far ahead of or behind receivers - Fitzpatrick is all over the place. If Ralph Wilson is seriously considering spending $10 million on Buffalo's next head coach, he might consider spending a similar amount transplanting Fitzpatrick's brain into Edwards' body; that procedure might give us one of the best quarterbacks in the league. (Also acceptable for the transplant: J.P. Losman's body.)

Eric Wood has a fractured tibia and fibula
According to Chris Brown from BuffaloBills.com:
"Bills OL Eric Wood has a fractured tibia and fibula and is staying in Jacksonville tonight.
Wood is having surgery to re-set the bones. He’s expected back in Buffalo on Monday.
With six weeks left in the season its likely that Wood’s injury is season ending. We’ll get the official update Monday at Perry Fewell’s wrap up press conference."

Bills lose another late lead, drop Fewell's debut
I'm not sure that the term "fourth quarter collapse" accurately describes this game - at least in the sense that the Bills didn't roll over and die like mortally wounded animals, as they did in their previous two games - but Perry Fewell's debut as interim head coach of the Buffalo Bills was marred by yet another lost lead in the fourth quarter. Mike Sims-Walker caught a short touchdown pass from David Garrard with less than a minute remaining, and Buffalo's last-gasp attempt fell short, giving the Jacksonville Jaguars an 18-15 win.
Fewell can at least be partially blamed for the loss. Buffalo was forced to settle for a field goal at the end of the first half after some terrible clock management took valuable time off the clock, preventing the Bills from taking a shot at a touchdown. Those lost points proved decisive in the loss. The Bills trailed 10-9 at halftime.
The defense came to play once again; the much-maligned run defense held Maurice Jones-Drew to just 66 rushing yards on 25 attempts, and the Bills held an opponent under 100 rushing yards for the first time since their Week 2 victory over Tampa Bay. But as has been the case all season, the defense couldn't get off the field in critical situations (and got little help from the offense yet again), allowing the Jaguars to hold the ball for well over 20 minutes in the second half.
Terrell Owens was a huge factor for the Bills, catching 9 passes for 197 yards, including a 98-yard touchdown reception on the Bills' first play of the second half. But completely lacking a running game (Buffalo ran for 53 yards), as well as some errant throws from quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and two untimely turnovers, sealed Buffalo's fate. The offense, despite gaining nearly 350 yards, let the defense down once again in the second half.
The Bills also had two touchdowns - a bomb to Lee Evans and a sweep by Fred Jackson - nullified by penalties. You're not going to win too often when you take points off the board three separate times; unfortunately, that's exactly what happened in Fewell's not-boring debut.
Buffalo lost guard Eric Wood to a devastating lower left leg injury on the day; expect the prognosis on him to be bad. Marshawn Lynch was also carted off the field with a shoulder injury.
The Bills is now 3-7 on the season. Their next game is a week from today against the 5-5 Miami Dolphins at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

Buffalo Bills at Jacksonville Jaguars: Open Game Thread

Buffalo Bills (3-6) at Jacksonville Jaguars (5-4)
Sunday, November 22, 2009 at 1:00 PM EST (TV: CBS)
Jacksonville Municipal Stadium - Jacksonville, FL
Jaguars on SB Nation: Big Cat Country
Bills inactives: Steve Johnson (scratch), James Hardy (scratch), Joe Klopfenstein (scratch), Demetrius Bell (knee), Marcus Stroud (knee), Terrence McGee (knee), Ashton Youboty (ankle)
The Perry Fewell Era begins in earnest today. The Buffalo Bills are set to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars - winners of two straight and four of their last six - just five days after firing head coach Dick Jauron. The 3-6 Bills are battered, bruised and beleaguered, but Fewell begins his seven-game stretch as interim head coach with the benefit of extraordinarily low expectations.
Even against a team that has piled up plenty of questionable wins this season, the Bills are overmatched against the Jaguars, who feature one of the game's most prolific scoring threats in running back Maurice Jones-Drew. It will be up to Buffalo's cellar-dwelling offense, led by newly-christened starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, to move the ball, put up points and sustain drives to keep Jones-Drew off the field and assist the Bills' league-worst rushing defense.
Expectations are low, but this is still a winnable game. Perhaps the coaching change will inspire Buffalo to start the Fewell era off on the right foot. Time will tell, and until it does, as always, GO BILLS.
