WGRZ's Ed Kilgore brings back to life the story that won't die - James Hardy's allegedly pulling a gun on his father during an argument last week.

Is it just me, or is Kilgore being a bit harsh here? To liken a young man to Roger Clemens for a "crime" that remains alleged, uncharged and won't be pursued by any legal force strikes me as rather absurd. You make the call, folks.

"We have spoken to law enforcement officials and they have informed us that they looked into this and have no plans to pursue the matter any further. We also spoke to James last night and will continue to speak with him today, but indications are that this matter has been resolved."

Nice work by the Bills and kudos to them for all the investigative work they did for KE He can now pursue disability benefits, which he would have been ineligible for had he remained a Bill. He also qualifies for full pension benefits, due to his 3 years of NFL service, which is good to know.

 2. I think mid-May is the right time to start jotting down potential playoff teams for an upcoming season, right after free agency, the draft and rookie minicamps. It's a fun time to search for a potential playoff shocker.

As of right now, I believe the Buffalo Bills will be the surprise postseason team in the AFC.

Trent Edwards has experience under his belt. Marshawn Lynch is a budding star. The offensive line is very strong. The defense is supremely coached under the vastly underrated Dick Jauron. The special teams are incredibly strong.

And I think Buffalo, in relatively quiet fashion, cleaned up this offseason. The Bills had needs at cornerback, linebacker, defensive tackle and wide receiver. They filled them all.

Jauron was borderline giddy when I talked to the Buffalo coach after the Bills smartly plucked cornerback/return specialist Leodis McKelvin in the first round. He will make an immediate impact in both phases. Trading for defensive tackle Marcus Stroud was the savviest deal of the offseason. Stroud, teamed with John McCargo inside and Chris Kelsay and Aaron Schobel on the outside, will form a dominant defensive line. While Buffalo overpaid for Kawika Mitchell, he is an upgrade at linebacker. And Paul Posluszny is back at linebacker, returning from his injury that curtailed his rookie season. Plus, Jauron and the Bills stole James Hardy in Round 2. The tall receiver with fly-paper hands has a great knack for scoring touchdowns and compliments Lee Evans incredibly well.

Walsh’s tapes show that the Patriots recorded the signals of offensive and defensive coaches in regular-season games against the Miami Dolphins, the Buffalo Bills, the Cleveland Browns and the San Diego Chargers and against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2002 American Football Conference championship game. In that game, the tape has been edited to show Steelers coaches signaling plays, followed by two different camera angles of the actual plays that were called.

There was no evidence that the Patriots taped the Rams walk through practice before the Super Bowl.

Chris Brown had some updates on today's first rookie practice. It sounds like McKelvin, Hardy, Ellis, Corner and Bowen are certainly the best athletes and most impressive players out there.

I'm glad to hear that Tyke Tolbert is working specifically with Hardy on his route running. That's an area he really needs to solidify in order for him to have an immediate impact. I hope he spends all May and June working on that area of his game.

Undrafted rookie WR Jason Jones also stuck out displaying good hands.
