Quinn to undergo surgery

Sports Network | December 02, 2008

Berea, OH (Sports Network) - Cleveland Browns quarterback Brady Quinn has decided to undergo surgery to repair his broken right index finger, an injury he sustained in a November 17 game against Buffalo.

Quinn broke the tip of his finger and sustained tendon damage on his throwing hand while leading the Browns to a 29-27 victory over the Bills. He started the next week against Houston, but was inefficient in throwing for only 94 yards on 8-of-18 passing with two interceptions before being pulled in the second half of the 16-6 setback.

After an examination last week by noted sports surgeon Dr. James Andrews, Quinn was advised to shut it down for the rest of the 2008 season.

In three starts this year, Quinn has completed 45-of-89 passes for 518 yards with two touchdowns and a pair of interceptions. The 22nd overall pick of the 2007 draft made just one appearance last year as a rookie, throwing for 45 yards while completing 3-of-8 passes.

The surgery is scheduled for Wednesday and Quinn is expected to need about 10 weeks of recovery time.

With Derek Anderson also out for the season because of a knee injury, Ken Dorsey is expected to start for Browns on Sunday at Tennessee.
