Peters May Still Play on Sunday?

Chris Brown of BuffaloBills.com is reporting that there's still an outside shot that injured OT Jason Peters will play in Philadelphia for the Bills' season finale:

Jason Peters has not officially been ruled out for Sunday with his groin injury.

"He's having further tests and we'll know more tomorrow," said Dick Jauron. "We're not overly optimistic. The chances are not good (for Sunday)."

Clearly, Peters is still not likely to play against the Eagles, but I think it's also clear that the young man is attempting to come back for one more game. That's thoughtful, Mr. Peters - but please, don't rush it.

It's becoming obvious that outside of Trent Edwards, Peters is Buffalo's most important offensive cog next season. Whether or not the Bills can make it to the post-season in 2008 is riding on Edwards' shoulders, but if there's one player who can help Trent succeed most, it is most obviously Peters. Don't get me wrong - I would love to see Peters play; I always do. But I'd rather seem him blocking a path to the post-season for us next season; if he further aggravates the groin injury, and then tries to play in the Pro Bowl, isn't there the off chance he could jeopardize at least part of the off-season training program? I'd rather not see that happen. Hopefully, this story will be put to rest today.

AP is reporting that current Bills QB coach Turk Schonert wants to lead Buffalo's offense as the replacement to Steve Fairchild. Brown reports that some players agree that he may be the best fit.

Couple of Eagles articles for your perusal this morning as well. First off, the ever-popular Donovan McNabb is preparing for yet another controversy-riddled off-season. Brian Westbrook, meanwhile, has a strong case for MVP. He's certainly going to be more than a handful on Sunday, given Buffalo's recent run defense woes.

Schonert
I don't care if it's him or someone else, but the new OC better be less predictable and brainless than Fairchild.  I'm not convinced our offensive scheme is the problem, but rather the gameday playcalling that kills us.  If Schonert comes in and gets the ball to Lynch on the outside and in the open field more, finds more ways to involve Roscoe and just helps guide our O to the endzone, I would be thrilled with having him.  He seems like a respectable candidate as long as he doesn't run an O like Fairchild...

Offense
Buffalo's offense has been historically putrid this season and all parties concerned deserve scrutiny.  The game Edwards played on Sunday was one of the worst I've seen by a QB in the 20 seasons I've been rooting for this team (or at in the past two weeks).  I've come to grips with the fact that Edwards will be the team's starting QB next season so I'm very discouraged to read that Schonert's even a candidate for a promotion following the disaster that 2007's been for Buffalo quarterbacks.  Here's hoping we grab an offensive coordinator who's actually done well in his previous job so that Edwards has a fighting chance to learn to be an NFL QB next summer.  Self-inflicted and/or lame excuses aside, Buffalo's QB play in 2007 has been the worst in the NFL this season, so to reward the man who was directing them with a promotion stinks of a cost-effective move by the front office and an unimaginative, somewhat gutless move by Dick Jauron.  (At least I'm use to that routine by now).
