Bills Trade Up to Select LB Posluszny

No. 34

Profile: NFL Draft Countdown

Paul Posluszny
Linebacker
Penn State

Needless to say, this is by far the most excited I have been as a Bills fan in quite a while. Paul Posluszny is the perfect fit for the Buffalo Bills - he comes at a position of HUGE need, he is the hardest worker you'll find, he's smart, tough and has the skills to fit in our defensive scheme. Best of all, he's a leader - with all of our departures on the defensive side of the ball this year, his leadership qualities will be of most value to the Bills out of the gate.

Since Mel Kiper is an idiot, I'll clarify something he said. Kiper said that Posluszny will play middle linebacker in our scheme, but I just don't see that happening. Angelo Crowell has been bulking up all off-season and has the skills to play the middle. Posluszny played middle 'backer in college, sure, but he was far more effective on the outside. My guess is that he will play strongside 'backer from the get-go.

In order to move up to select Posluszny, the Bills swapped the #43 and #74 picks for the rights to the #34 pick. This is a pretty steep price to pay in my opinion, but I also believe that the value Posluszny represents easily outweighs the price paid. Great move by our front office.

Seriously, I am absolutely thrilled right now to be a Bills fan! GREAT job by Marv to realize that the 'backers would slide and get TWO first-round talents!

Awesome Pick
Considering you had him at #12, this is thrilling.  All of a sudden the Lynch pick looks a little better as well.

I know this has nothing to do with the pick, but..
Has anyone sensed some hostility between all these guys on ESPN?? Earlier Keyshawn, Mort and Kiper had a fairly heated argument about Dwayne Jarrett, and now Boomer was sticking up for the Bills so strongly against Mort. I guess that stems from spending 8 hours consecutively together.

Re: ESPN
I noticed that too, Nick. I kind of wish I had NFL Network - I can see that being far less annoying. Stupid Time Warner...

Where are y'all?
Where are all the Bills fans ecstatic to get Posluszny? I kind of feel like I'm celebrating over here with just John and Nick! We need some more partiers!

First watchin, now cheerin !
Two great picks. Been reading the site for the last month or so and these two guys have gotten me excited enough to sign up and speak out. For my money, only Cleveland has done better thus far.

Welcome to the site!
Very glad to have you, Marv4Prez.  Fantastic screen name - I think 99% of Bills fans would vote Marv into office after his work today!

Keep on talking to us, too! We value everyone's opinions here.

As for Cleveland, I'd say you're right - they've had an exciting first day.  But I don't know - I'd put Buffalo neck and neck with them.  We filled two huge needs with the top 2 players on our board - how can you get better than that?! :-D

CB @ 92?
Good to be here. Don't get me wrong, I have faith in Youboty that he'll prove himself this season. However, a bit of depth can be gained with the third round pick. Two names that remain jump out at me. Could Lynch's teammate Hughes be joining him in Orchard Park? Or maybe a little more local flavor from a certain Orangeman?

Re: CB
I really like both of these guys.  If either of them is there at #92, they'll be the front-runners.  I think at this point I prefer Jackson, because he seems to be a bit quicker and can play both corner and safety.  But CB is certainly an option.

I could see WR and maybe LB coming into play again, with S a longshot.

WR?
I wouldn't be disappointed to see a WR taken, but only two remaining ring bells with me (but I'm certainly no draftnik). Brandon Myles from WV has raw talent and solids skills, but a little small for my taste. David Ball is still there. How can you argue against someone who breaks Jerry Rice records, even if it was for a I-AA school? His style reminds me of a certain Fightin' Irish receiver that chose to play baseball instead of being a likely first-rounder (IMO).

I gotta believe
That our third-round pick will definitely be a CB. Hughes and Jackson are still on the board as of pick 90; either of those guys are really solid fits at DB in our system.

What? Dang it, late again...
All right, I'll try door three...

This was AMAZING.  I've been having to watch secondarily today, to my frustration.  They get their top LB (yes, you can confirm that now) and their (#2?  Or #1?) RB.

And yes, they now have a long term winner value with the third.  I'm telling you, they're sold on Ashton.

What an astonishing, suprising day.
