Bills Ink Wendling and Other Notes

One more rookie has signed - sixth-round pick S John Wendling is on board. Per franchise policy terms of the deal weren't disclosed, although Rotoworld reports it's a multi-year deal. That puts us over the halfway mark - Trent Edwards, Wendling, Derek Schouman and C.J. Ah You have all signed, leaving Marshawn Lynch, Paul Posluszny and Dwayne Wright the only unsigned rookies as camp approaches. I expect Wright to be inked tomorrow, with Posluszny coming at the latest early Thursday. Lynch may miss a practice or two, but I expect him to be signed by the time padded practices begin this weekend.

Pro Football Weekly has posted a Q&A with DE Chris Kelsay that is a pretty entertaining read. I was especially fond of this quote, which calmed my nerves a touch about our young defense:

I'm going to have to take on more of a leadership role this year because I will be one of the oldest guys on the defense. Obviously, London was our heart and soul at the middle linebacker position, Takeo has been banged up the past two seasons, and Nate was never a big talker to the team -- he led by example. We're going to have to have a couple of guys step up and kind of put this team on their back. That said, through minicamps and the OTAs, I see 11 guys who can be leaders on our defense at one time. That's how I think we are. We're just going to play for each other, we're going to play hard, and we know what to expect of each other. If the rookies and young guys who are going to play can get on board with that, then I think we'll be all right.

Yeah, he's spot on there. Live up to that contract, Mr. Kelsay.

ESPN's John Clayton had a few more nice things to say about the Bills' offense in his breakdown of AFC training camp storylines. Obviously his opinion doesn't matter too much (especially here, where Bills fans - not bigwigs - reign supreme), but it's still nice to see. He definitely doesn't like our defense though - perhaps he should interview Chris Kelsay.

In the "random celebrity story" of the week, it sounds like NASCAR's Kevin Harvick will visit Bills training camp on Thursday. Harvick, who currently sits eighth in the NEXTEL Cup points standings (yes, I'm a closet NASCAR fan), is apparently awaiting some words from DT Tim Anderson, a big NASCAR fan. It might be prudent to give Timmy A some tips, considering he's likely short of time on Buffalo's roster. I'd love to see that 300-lb. "monster" turning left all day...

Be sure to cast your vote in the WR poll to the right if you haven't already. We'll see you bright and early tomorrow morning.
