With DT pool thinning, where can Buffalo turn?

Tennessee has franchised Albert Haynesworth. The Packers followed suit this evening, tagging Corey Williams. With the Buffalo Bills searching for help at defensive tackle - and with the two "big names" off of the market - where can the Bills turn to find a run-stuffing complement to their current DT corps? There are a few avenues to explore - so I'll lay them out on the line, and y'all can decide what the best route to take is. Here we go:
1. Stick to Free Agency: Even with Haynesworth and Williams off the market, there are still some intriguing names to ponder. Titan Randy Starks is the most commonly referenced name, and even though he's drawn the ire of some Titan fans, he's still young and in the right environment could excel. There are also some intriguing veteran names (Atlanta's Rod Coleman, Seattle's Chuck Darby, and New Orleans' Brian Young are examples) that could give the Bills time to develop their own run-stuffer. Nothing exciting here, but the Bills rarely provide "excitement" via free agency. Feel free to offer additional free agent names if you've done research on the subject.
2. Explore the Trade Route: I know there is a contingent of readers here who would love to see the Bills make a splash via trade, and apparently, Lions DT Shaun Rogers is still available. Rogers' inconsistent play has made him a trade option, but Lions coach Rod Marinelli says he won't be released. Rogers has some issues to overcome (most notably his weight), but some of his most dominant days came under Dick Jauron, when he was the defensive coordinator/interim head coach of Detroit. There are Rogers/Jauron ties, and with the thinning of the free agent market - coupled with a top-heavy draft class - taking a waiver on an elite talent like Rogers might not be a bad idea, even if it costs a Day One draft pick to get it done.
3. The Draft, of course! Much is expected to change, what with free agency looming and the Combine starting tomorrow, but as it stands right now, the Bills will likely miss out on an opportunity to draft the top two tackle prospects this year, LSU's Glenn Dorsey and USC's Sedrick Ellis. One name to keep an eye on is Kentwan Balmer of North Carolina - he's coming off of a stellar senior season after being a career underachiever in college, and if he gets a good character grade at the Combine, he could be set to cash in on the weakness of this year's free agent tackles. His skills fit well into a Cover-2 defense, and he's even being projected by many current mock drafts as a target of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Prospects such as Pat Sims, Marcus Harrison, Dre Moore and DeMario Pressley are second or third round prospects that could excel in a situational role right out of the gate.

Is it possible that the Bills, given the changing landscape that is available defensive tackles, go with the status quo at the position? Not likely, given the Bills' porous run defense. Dick Jauron and the restructured front office seem very likely to add a one-gap player to be on the field for first and second downs; this is the type of player that the team has been missing for two years since the switch to the Cover-2 was made, and finding that player would round out, at least skill wise, the current DT corps. Chances are sky high that the Bills will have a new DT (or two) by the end of April - we just don't know how. That's where you come in, fellow prognosticators - how would you address this position?

DT
I'm really getting underwhelmed by Starks. From that one interview conducted, to his production, and to Tennessee's lack of success with him in the lineup really is turning me off from going after him.
I'd be willing to go with Tommy Kelly and a 4th or 5th round Jumbo to clog lanes. If 5 DT's were kept, I wouldn't have a huge issue with it. I'm guessing we'll only keep 4 on the final roster, so the front office will likely bring in one DT this offseason since the staff is so high on Kyle Williams. Unless Tripplett gets released (I don't see it happening), then we have 3 of the 4 DT's needed for the rotation already in place.

Defensive Tackle Options
I think everyone here pretty much knows that I don't like settling, particularly at certain positions, and I am a big fan of dominant, elite talents.
Everyone talks about how difficult it is to find pass rushers. I don't see it. Quarterbacks, offensive tackles, and defensive tackles. Now those guys are truely rare.
all sound reasonable

I'm with you...
Ther are still a few DT's out there and I would consider taking them for the right price. I like Kelly's versatility and Stark's potential. I worry that Stark's price is going to go higher then his worth now because he is one of the top young talents at the position still available. If that's the case, I would much rather save the money and trade up and get Ellis.
I still think the Bills need to address at least two of their five big needs in free agency. I was hoping one of them was DT (with Corey Williams).
Evan though I'm not thrilled with any of the options out there we know the Bills are going to address WR in free agency (maybe even the draft as well). That's leave one other position the Bills have to address. If they would go after Briggs I would be happy for them to address LB, however I doubt they would go after him and none of the other free agents excite me.
Free agency also leaves not much to be desired at the TE position. That only leaves CB. I think Drayton Florence is a guy who would offer excellent value for his services and someone that wouldn't be "over-paid."
Knowing the Bills desire to add a WR, here's a realistic free agency:
Ernest Wilford (WR)
Drayton Florence (CB)
William Joseph (DT)
Mario Haggen (LB)
that would leave a starting TE, LB and DT for the draft (along with another WR). With four picks in the first 3 rounds that's 'doable.'
My route
Sign:
DJ Hackett (WR)
Drayton Florence (CB)
Trade a 3rd rounder for:
Shaun Rogers or Kris Jenkins (DT)
...That leaves WR, TE, DE, and WLB for the first 4 rounds of the draft. I'll use drafttek's http://www.drafttek.com/ current projections for Buffalo's first 3 picks (because I like all 3):
- Keith Rivers, WLB USC
- Fred Davis, TE USC
- Lavelle Hawkins, WR Cal

agreed nick...
you know the Bills are going to go after a free agent WR, and I would take Hackett over Wilford.
Florence may be the best value player out there.
and I just LOVE the DraftTek draft. If that was the final result come April I would be estatic!
If the Bills don't trade for one of the DT's I think they really have to look into trading up for Ellis or taking Balmer at 11. I haven't really looked at the depth at DT beyond the first round, but from my understanding, it isn't great. To me, beyond WR there is no other important position to address on this team. They simply can not come away from this off-season without adequately addressing the need. Here's hoping the trade wires will be hot come march!
Curious
DT in the draft is actually fairly deep, depending on what you are looking for. (you'll see tomorrow)
Rogers vs Jenkins
Jenkins
As for being washed up, he has played in all 16 games the last two seasons and has put up similar years in both, (2006, 41 tackles & 3 sacks, 2007 38 tackles & 3 sacks) not terrible, but he's also not the happiest camper.
If I had to pick one
They both have tremendous talent, but coaches have had problems getting them to use it. Jauron has been able to motivate Rogers in the past, so if I was choosing between the two I would go with Rogers.
Rod Coleman
