Who's playing? #14 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets vs. LSU Tigers.
When is it? December 31, 7:30 PM EST.
Where is it? Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia.
Why should you watch?
Because you love the option, you love watching the SEC lose, and you've never quite understood the whole dynamic of Atlanta natives being much more amped up about college sports than pro sports.  So it'll be fun to see the Yellow Jackets in a de facto home game.

DBD 12.31.08 It's cold and snowing and I'm getting the hell out of here

Greetings friends.  It's been a while since I've done one of these.  As it is, it's cold, snowing, dreary, foggy, and generally miserable in New York, and I'm still at work because I don't have today off.  Still, there's no one in the office so I'll probably take off once I finish this.  Huzzah!

By the way, I have no idea if these links have already been posted.

Who's playing? Maryland Terrapins vs. Nevada Wolf Pack.
When is it? December 30, 4:30 PM EST.
Where is it? Bronco Stadium in Boise, Idaho.
Why should you watch?
Because you've wondered what it's like watching a bowl game where less than 30 tickets have been sold to the respective student bodies, and you have no idea why anyone would stage a bowl game in Boise, Idaho.  Also, you want to see if Chris Turner, Darrius Heyward-Bey and that one running back are really as good as they looked when they beat our Bears.

Ask Yellow Fever And Open Thread

(Use this thread for the Southern Mississippi v. Troy game on today at 8:15 EST.)

Yellow Fever: Good afternoon and welcome.  I've got a fun assignment at the end of this chat too.  DINOSAUR RELATED!

Ed (PA): JoePA gets a 3 year deal....3 years ago who would have thought he may still be there longer than Chuck Weis would last at ND?

Yellow Fever: I don't think Weis is fired yet, buddy.  But obviously it seems as if Weis isn't cut out for the college game, and one would have to think that if he doesn't experience more success next year, he'll be gone.

That said, I'm surprised either Bobby Bowden or JoePa haven't keeled over yet.  Seriously.

Bowl Game Blowout! I

To help get you in the mood for this season's bowl games, I thought it would be fun to remember the bowl season that wasn't last year.

Back in the head days Pre-Oregon State, I asked my boss if I could take the entirety of bowl season off, because I wanted to be able to go to whatever bowl game Cal made it to.  I even took off the first two weeks of January just in case Cal made it to the national championship game.

My boss responded with "Yes, anything for football."

Then of course, Oregon State happened.  I ended up not taking any vacation at all because I wasn't feeling like spending a few weeks watching crappy games and going to El Paso, and my boss even joked that it was a good thing Cal went in the tank because they really needed me.  I pointed out that it could be worse, I could be a Michigan fan like him.

What bowl?: The Inaugural EagleBank Bowl!
Who's playing? Wake Forest Demon Deacons vs. Navy Midshipmen.
When is it? December 20, 11 AM EST.
Where is it? RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C.
Why should you watch?
Because you missed it the first time these two teams played on September 27, when Navy won 24-17.  Also, because it's always awesome to watch the option when it's done correctly, and you probably won't have anything else to do that early in the morning.

College Football Bowl Pick'em Reminder!

If you haven't already signed up for our Bowl Pick'em and would still like to, there's still time!  The instructions again:

  1. You'll need a Yahoo! ID - once you do
  2. Click here
  3. Use group #13086
  4. Password "gobears"

I think we'll be using confidence points if only because I'm too lazy to change them, and it seems more fun.  Besides, who doesn't want to put 34 points on the line on Rutgers vs. NC State in the Papajohns.com bowl?!?!?  You know, besides me.

Ask Yellow Fever

We've started again with that posting.  Check it:  Interview with Gary Tyrrell, Women's B-Ball PrimerBeastmode. Top25.  Eating The Enemy.  Fake PAT One.  Fake PAT Two. Roundtable. YTT Inside The Numbers.

Yellow Fever: I'm back after two weeks of vacation, the first of which was spent on the Brock Mansion Party Yacht while cruising around the Caribbean.  God as my witness, when I'm 65, I'm going to retire to Miami and go on at least twenty cruises a year.

Rich (New York, NY): While discussing USC's disappointment with going to the Rose Bowl, the L.A. Times last Sunday called Penn State "Just another Big Ten vase." Do you think they might be overlooking Joe Pa's team?

Yellow Fever: It certainly bears noting that this "Just another Big Ten vase" beat the one team that beat them - but so did Oregon and Stanford, so that's not saying a whole lot.  To answer the question literally, yeah, they might be overlooking JoePa's team.  But then again, it was the L.A. Times that said that, not the Trojans.  After all, I didn't see USC overlook Illinois last year in the Rose Bowl then, so I kinda doubt they won't be motivated to send Spread HD out to pasture.

Incidentally, who the hell came up with the term "Spread HD"?  Spread High Definition?  This isn't TV we're talking about here, people.  Though JoePa has been since before those were prevalent, so maybe he just decided to throw in the lingo there to make him seem hip and up to speed.

On a related note, one day I'll be coaching the Philadelphia Eagles with an offense called "Spinning T Holy Flower Dragon Tooth Glory Punch".  It'll be awesome.

Also, we've started again with that posting.  Check it:  Interview with Gary Tyrrell, Women's B-Ball PrimerBeastmode. Top25.

Shockingly, there aren't a whole lot of recipes out there for eating huskies.  Maybe I should have looked through some Chinese websites.  JUST KIDDING I'M CHINESE

GOOD DOGGY BISCUIT

2 1/2 cups flour
2/3 cup rolled oats
1/4 cup wheat germ
1/4 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup oil
1/2 cup water
1 tsp baking powder
Mix 2 cups of the flour with the other ingredients and beat until well mixed. Add the other 1/2 cup of flour by hand and mix in well. Turn out on floured board, knead until well mixed, roll and cut with bone shaped or other cookie cutter.
