Bills GM Nix: "Trent probably had the best camp"

Buffalo Bills GM Buddy Nix was on the Shredd and Ragan Show on Wednesday afternoon, and during his appearance, he was asked about Buffalo's quarterback situation. Queried whether one of the quarterbacks had stood out to him, Nix hesitated before giving Trent Edwards his verbal nod.

"Trent probably had the best camp," said Nix. "He's got more talent, even though we've all got a lot to do. But again, I'll leave that assessment up to Chan (Gailey), and it's something we'll talk about and then we'll try to make the right decision."

Edwards opened training camp No. 1 on the depth chart, and through two preseason games, Edwards has completed 11 of 20 passes for 151 yards, with one touchdown, one interception, and a QB rating of 75.2. Buffalo's first-team offense has put up 17 points in those games with Edwards at the helm.

This comment, particularly the quip about Edwards having more talent than his fellow quarterbacks, is about as up-front as you'll hear an NFL official be about his players, particularly in the midst of an open competition for the starting job. Edwards will start Saturday night's preseason game against Cincinnati, and barring injury, is a virtual lock to open the season as the starter as well.
