"I went to eat lunch with my family and when I got back about two hours later, Gary (Wichard, his California-based agent) called and said 'How does it feel to get your contract done on your birthday?' It's something I'll always remember no matter what day it was, but it was special to do it on my birthday." (Spiller's birthday was Thursday so his deal was virtually done that day and not yesterday.)

"I'll tell you what, he may be one of the guys that's made some of the biggest improvements from the first OTA that he went through to this point in camp," said Gailey. "He's made a lot of progress. He'd never done this, he looked awful when he started and the guy can go on the field and play right now. He's improved tremendously. I've been very impressed with Chris Ellis."
