The Buffalo Bills will host the Miami Dolphins this Sunday at Ralph Wilson Stadium in each team's 2010 season opener. It will be the first time that the two teams played each other in Week 1 since September 1, 1991, when the Bills - fresh off of their first appearance in the Super Bowl - took on the high-flying Dolphins led by Dan Marino.
Buffalo won that game 35-31, largely on the efforts of a 33-touch, 268-yard, two-touchdown performance by running back Thurman Thomas, who went on to win AP MVP and Offensive Player of the Year awards that year. Andre Reed caught 11 passes for 154 yards and a touchdown, and quarterback Jim Kelly threw for 381 yards and two scores in the victory. Marino threw for three scores himself, two going to Mark Clayton (who had a huge game), but Thomas' rushing score put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter. Buffalo went on to finish the 1991 season with a 13-3 record, making their second straight Super Bowl appearance. The '91 Dolphins finished 8-8, a down year between two playoff seasons for Miami. Since 1991, the Dolphins have made the playoffs nine times, with the Bills cracking the postseason six times.
