Ryan Fitzpatrick tried to warm up Sunday morning, but struggled to complete certain drills. As a result, Fitzpatrick is technically inactive for today's game with the New York Jets - he'll serve as the third quarterback - and Brian Brohm will make his second career start.
This will be Brohm's first appearance in a game this season, and his first regular season start since December 27, 2009, when he completed 17 of 29 passes for 146 yards and two interceptions in a 31-3 loss to the Atlanta Falcons last season.
With Buffalo likely looking to upgrade its quarterback position, this is a big opportunity for Brohm to prove to head coach Chan Gailey and GM Buddy Nix that he belongs on Buffalo's depth chart going into next season. He has served as Fitzpatrick's primary backup since Week 4, the first game after the Bills released Trent Edwards.
David Nelson, Donald Jones, Mike Caussin, Ed Wang, Colin Brown, John McCargo and Kellen Heard are also inactive for the Bills. Meanwhile, for the Jets, LaDainian Tomlinson, Shonn Greene, Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie have been declared inactive - meaning that Brohm will be throwing to three receivers against the Jets' backup cornerbacks.
