It's one thing when ESPN's John Clayton says something. Clayton, in an appearance on WGR 550's Schopp and the Bulldog on Thursday, told the hosts that Buffalo Bills GM Buddy Nix has his eye on Auburn junior QB Cam Newton. Clayton did back off of that stance a bit by saying that he didn't think the Bills would take a quarterback with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.
It's another thing entirely when not only Vic Carucci says the same thing, but two in-the-know reporters say the same thing. Carucci, in a chat Friday at NFL.com (pointed out first by Chris Brown at BuffaloBills.com), also indicated that he has heard that Nix likes Newton.
"From everything I hear, GM Buddy Nix likes Cam Newton a great deal, and the Bills might very well be inclined to take him in the No. 3 slot," Carucci said Friday.
Before you get your knickers in a twist, keep in mind that Nix reportedly loved Tim Tebow last year - and last I checked, Tebow isn't on Buddy's roster. But if you'd already discounted quarterback as a distinct possibility at three, this is the clearest sign yet that it's time to reconsider.
