NFL Combine: Finding QB answers - BuffaloBills.com
Coaching the South Team roster at the Senior Bowl last month Bills head coach Chan Gailey and his offensive staff had the luxury of getting a real feel for the senior signal callers in Mobile. But the task this week at the NFL combine is getting the answers they need on the highly touted junior quarterbacks like Blaine Gabbert, Ryan Mallett and Cam Newton.

Nix humored by Newton connections - BuffaloBills.com
"Everybody thinks I’ve got ties at Auburn because I coached there and my family went there," said Nix smiling. "But I just found out that Chan’s (Gailey) son went to Auburn and that’s why if we take him that’ll be the reason, not because he’s a big, good quarterback."

Inside The Bills | Gailey’s right hand man
"Head coach Chan Gailey shed some light on Wannstedt’s Assistant head coach role in addition to his inside linebacker duties. It sounds as if Wannstedt and Gailey will be side by side through almost any and all prospect reviews here this week."

Inside The Bills | Open to trading up or down
"There’s always a chance of that," Gailey said. "There’s a chance of trading down, trading up. We don’t turn our phone off at night. We’re always looking at ways to upgrade and if that’s the best way to go we’ll do it."

Inside The Bills | USC OT tops 300 lbs
"Highly touted USC OT Tyron Smith had to come in to the combine at better than 300 pounds to solidify his stock as a first-round pick. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter he’s done that."

Inside The Bills | Gailey eager to see Newton
"I’m anxious to see him continue to work out," said Gailey. "I’m anxious to see what he’s going to do here this week. He obviously had a great year. I watched him several times on TV. I’ve not studied him to this point. I’ve watched a little bit of tape. I haven’t studied him. He’s a big athlete that is in that Wildcat mode, but has the ability maybe to go to the drop back passer mode."

Inside The Bills | Bills not big on draft value chart
"We do look at it, but I don’t," said Nix. "Somebody else does and tells me. Who knows whether it’s good or not. It’s probably a good thing to start with and then you decide what the value of the guy you’ve got and where you go with it."

Audio: Nix on Newton, other options - BillBoard - Blogs - The Buffalo News
Buffalo Bills General Manager Buddy Nix spoke with a small group of reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine about what the team might do at the No. 3 spot. Though he talked at length about the prospect of drafting a quarterback, he stressed there are other options. Here's audio from that conversation, broken into two parts:

Current Bills roster
Merriman could impact draft direction - BuffaloBills.com

Buddy Nix and Chan Gailey alluded to Shawne Merriman when discussing the draft saying if the OLB gets healthy the team might pass on a pass rusher.

Inside The Bills | Merriman making progress
"I can only give the report that I get," Gailey told Buffalobills.com. "I get the report from the training staff, Bud Carpenter and his staff and all things are positive at this point. I think we’re all looking forward to seeing how he progresses, his continual improvement and what he’ll be able to do if we can get on the field with him."

Inside The Bills | Fitz still the guy
"I’ve said all along I am extremely confident in Ryan Fitzpatrick," Gailey said. "I really am. I think that he played well enough until he got to the very end, the next to last game he was in when he got banged up. I think he played well enough to prove to a lot of people and me and our staff included that he can play well and we can win a bunch of football games with a guy like that. I’ve been to the playoffs a couple of times with guys that haven’t performed as well as Ryan has, so I think we can do it."

Inside The Bills | Nix on projected starting CBs
"I think Leodis had a good year, not a great year," said Nix. "Leodis has missed a lot of time and the upside is really good on him. Terrence is hitting that magic number and is going to have to keep himself in great shape to play a lot longer."

Inside The Bills | Bills plan to tender RFAs
"Our process is just like it always is," Nix told Buffalobills.com. "If we tender a guy it would be the same thing we’d have done last year as far as tendering and we will tender some guys."

Inside The Bills | Still working with Maybin
"We’re going to keep working with Aaron Maybin," Nix said. "He shows signs of doing what he needs to do. And if he can be consistent with that we’re going to try to find something that he can do to help us."
