2011 NFL Draft: Christian Ponder Has Ties To Bills Coaches

Speaking of Christian Ponder, it's worth pointing out that the Florida State senior signal caller has direct ties to the Buffalo Bills organization. Those roots run deeper than the mere fact that Ponder was coached up by Chan Gailey and Buffalo's offensive coaching staff at the 2011 Senior Bowl.

"We actually had a prior relationship," Ponder told reporters at the Senior Bowl. "When he was the coach at Georgia Tech, they recruited me pretty hard. They were probably my second choice to Florida State, and I actually had a good relationship with Coach (Curtis) Modkins, who was actually the one that recruited me personally. So it's just good to work with them finally."

"We recruited Christian out of high school, so I've known him for a long time," Gailey said that week. He then clarified, saying that he's known Ponder for five years.

Ponder was the 2011 Senior Bowl MVP, getting the start for Gailey and throwing for 132 yards and two touchdowns in the south's 24-10 victory.

"(Ponder) has a good arm," Gailey said. "I'm glad to see that his arm problems are behind him now. He's thrown the ball well - probably thrown the deep ball better than any of the three to this point."
