2011 NFL Draft Results: Bills Select DE Marcell Dareus

With the third overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills have selected Alabama defensive lineman Marcell Dareus.

Though most Bills fans had written off this possibility for months, Dareus became the favorite to be picked by Buffalo starting 24 hours ago. In that time frame, the likes of Mel Kiper, Todd McShay, Mike Mayock, Rick Gosselin and Nolan Nawrocki all projected Dareus to Buffalo in their final mock drafts.

Dareus is a 6'3", 319-pound power defensive lineman with plenty of experience playing the five-technique (defensive end) position in a 3-4 defense. That is the position he'll likely be expected to play in Buffalo, as well. Dareus' game is one of power, but he is also a wide-bodied, straight-line penetrator that will fit into virtually any front the Bills employ.

In Dareus, veteran Kyle Williams, and 2010 draft picks Torell Troup and Alex Carrington, the Bills have a talented young nucleus of defensive linemen around which they'll build their defense. Our sense is that most Bills fans will approve of this pick, and this is the spot for y'all to let us know what you think of Dareus as the newest Bill.
