LKBPOTD #9 (Call me butter, cause I'm on a Rolle)

#87 TE Butch Rolle

Butch Rolle was selected in the 7th Round in the 1986 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills.  Standing 6-3 242 lbs out of Michigan State, Rolle joined the Bills at a time when the ground work was being laid for a winning franchise.  Such notable players as Hall of Fame QB Jim Kelly, Offensive Tackle Will Wolford, RB Ronnie Harmon, and Steve Tasker joined the Bills in 1986.  Coach Marv Levy was added mid-season as well.

Rolle meanwhile caught 4 passes for 56 yards as the second Tight End behind Pete Metzelaars.  The following season in 1987, Rolle fell into his role as a redzone specialist for the Bills; he caught two passes each for touchdowns, and each within three yards of the end zone.  Over the next four seasons, every pass Rolle caught was a touchdown.  From 1987 until 1991 Butch Rolle had 10 receptions and 10 touchdowns.

On December 22, 1991 the streak ended on a 5 yard reception from Frank Reich in a meaningless week 17 loss to the Detroit Lions and so did his career as a Buffalo Bill.   In 1992 Rolle signed with the Phoenix (now Arizona) Cardinals, and played two more seasons, only snagging one more touchdown in his career.

Butch Rolle is your Lesser Know Bills Player of the Day - Brought to you by     That feeling of nostalgia you get thinking back on old Bills players.

Sing it with me "I've gotta felling that Buffalo's going to the SuperBowl"
