Buddy Nix Wants 90 Bills Players By This Weekend

The Buffalo Bills are reporting to St. John Fisher college for the start of 2011 training camp on Friday, and GM Buddy Nix expects to have his roster at a league-maximum 90 players by that point in time.

Nix was one of several members of the Bills organization to speak with reporters today, as the facilities at One Bills Drive are now open again for players. The GM was his usual frank self in fielding questions, though newsworthy nuggets were few and far between. Thanks to the Twitter feed of WGR 550's Joe Buscaglia, however, there are a few items worth pointing out.

  • On the 90-man roster limit, the Bills, by my count at the time this is published, stand at 64 players on the active roster. That means over the next four or five days, between their own free agents, their drafted rookies, and other free agent signings (including undrafted rookies), the Bills will be inking 26 players if Nix gets his way. Strap in.
  • Nix re-confirmed that he'd like to re-sign both Drayton Florence and Paul Posluszny, and his praise for the latter was particularly grand.
  • Asked if the Bills had given any consideration to giving Ryan Fitzpatrick a contract extension, Nix answered in the affirmative.
