The Buffalo Bills have been linked to another big-name free agent today, and this time, said linking was done by the player himself. Tennessee Titans defensive end Jason Babin told Jim Wyatt (Tennesseean) that the Bills are one of several teams interested in him.
Babin, a 31-year-old pass rusher who enjoyed a career renaissance with 12.5 sacks and a Pro Bowl berth with the Titans in 2010, would conceivably play outside linebacker in the Bills' 3-4 defense. A 6'4", 265-pound edge rusher, Babin had been something of a disappointment as a former first-round draft pick of the Houston Texans - until last season, when under the tutelage of defensive line coach Jim Washburn, he performed like one of the best ends in the league.
Knowing that the Bills already have significant assets tied up in Chris Kelsay and Shawne Merriman, as well as young guys such as Arthur Moats waiting in the wings, this is one player I didn't anticipate hearing anything about from Buffalo's perspective. Still, they've got to spend money somewhere, and a pass rusher wouldn't be a bad investment.
Babin also told Wyatt that Philadelphia, Atlanta, Chicago and Kansas City have expressed interest, as well.
