49ers 3, Bills 0 After First Quarter: Buffalo Missing Opportunities

One quarter of play is officially in the books at Candlestick Park, and the San Francisco 49ers hold a 3-0 lead on the visiting Buffalo Bills.

The 49ers put up a 19-yard David Akers field goal on the second drive of the game - though it could have been far worse for Buffalo, considering they gave up 72 yards on successive plays to Frank Gore (19-yard run) and Vernon Davis (53-yard reception) during the drive. The Bills, keyed by Nick Barnett, made two goal line stops to prevent the Niners from nabbing an early touchdown.

Leodis McKelvin had a punt return for a touchdown called back on a Jairus Byrd holding penalty, and then the Bills squandered a possession in 49ers territory when McKelvin returned a kickoff 59 yards. That drive resulted in a Shawn Powell punt from San Francisco's 42-yard line after a failed Wildcat play and a blown up screen pass.

Buffalo has the ball to begin the second quarter. Go Bills!
