Buffalo Bills, Kraig Urbik Agree To Extension, Per Report

The Buffalo Bills acquired starting right guard Kraig Urbik on waivers in September of 2010 and was retained by the Bills as a Restricted Free Agent in 2012 when his rookie contract expired. He's now locked up to a lucrative contract extension per ESPN.com blogger James Walker.

On Monday night, Walker cited a source saying Urbik and the team were closing in on a four-year extension, saying "it should be finalized soon." Soon turned out to be Monday night, per this follow-up report. The agreement is for four years and $15 million. Urbik played the 2012 season on a one-year, $1.26 million contract.

The former Wisconsin Badger was released by the Pittsburgh Steelers one year after being selected in the third round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He's since started 26 games for Buffalo at guard and center. He was one of three important pending free agents on the Bills' offensive line. Fellow 2009 draft classmates stud left guard Andy Levitre and top interior reserve Chad Rinehart also have expiring contracts. Levitre and center Eric Wood are both represented by the same agent as Urbik.

It's good news that Buffalo is beginning to take care of key free agents. Another 2009 draftee - Jairus Byrd - will likely command a large contract should he hit the open market. Talks have begun with Byrd's agent, per Walker. Defensive end Kyle Moore, cornerback Leodis McKelvin and fullback Corey McIntyre are also among the soon-to-be free agents.
