Eric Wood Injury: Buffalo Bills Center Has Partially Torn MCL

Buffalo Bills center Eric Wood has a partially torn MCL, and the injury may cost him the remainder of the 2012 season.

Wood, in speaking with reporters at One Bills Drive on Monday afternoon, revealed the nature of the injury while noting that he's likely to miss at least two weeks because of the injury. With only four games remaining in the regular season - and with the team's playoff chances already razor thin - Wood may have already played his last down of the season.

The injury will not require surgery, per the player. Wood was carted off the sideline during the fourth quarter of yesterday's 34-18 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars; he has also been listed on the injury report with a knee injury for the past several weeks, but had not missed any playing time.

With Wood sidelined, starting right guard Kraig Urbik will slide over to center for, at minimum, the team's next two games: a home date with the St. Louis Rams this coming Sunday, and then a home/road trip to Toronto against the Seattle Seahawks on December 16. Who replaces Urbik in the lineup will depend largely on the status of right tackle Chris Hairston; if Sam Young has to play right tackle in place of Hairston, David Snow will start at guard. If Hairston plays, Young will probably play right guard.

In his fourth season as a former first-round pick out of Louisville, Wood has yet to complete a full 16-game schedule as a pro. He landed on IR with devastating leg injuries in both 2009 and 2011, and missed two games in 2010 just before becoming the team's full-time center.
