On the first day of Buffalo Bills training camp yesterday, the team's two players competing for the backup quarterback job got off to a slow start. (Meanwhile, the day for starter Ryan Fitzpatrick has been generally described as strong - so there's that, at least.)
Tyler Thigpen, a 2011 free agent signing that saw very limited playing time a year ago, took the second-team reps on day one of camp. WGR 550's Joe Buscaglia described Thigpen's day as "one to forget," noting that several easy throws were missed.
Vince Young will likely get second-team reps on Friday, but he, too, is coming off of a rough day one performance. WROC sports anchor John Kucko thought that Young looked "awful" on Thursday; Young threw two interceptions during his first training camp practice with Buffalo.
For Bills coaches, this competition will come down to performance; things sound pretty even so far, and not in a good way. For Bills fans, this competition will come down to confidence; things sound pretty even so far, and not in a good way. Alas, there are 20 more training camp practices to go; here's to hoping things change for the positive.
