Buffalo Bills Working Kirk Morrison At Middle Linebacker

Two of the more interesting summertime developments for the Buffalo Bills this year involve veteran linebacker Kirk Morrison. First, it became clear that he might very well lose the starting strong-side job he seemed destined to win to third-year upstart Arthur Moats. Now, multiple reports indicate that Morrison is getting more work at middle linebacker.

Both Chris Brown of BuffaloBills.com and Joe Buscaglia of WGR 550 noted on Thursday that Morrison - who still has not officially lost that starting job to Moats - has begun working inside of late, with the rep count for Scott McKillop dwindling as a result. The overwhelming majority of Morrison's 95 career starts have come at the Mike, and that experience would be a plus given the youth of starting middle linebacker Kelvin Sheppard.

As it stands right now, six Bills linebackers - projected starters Nick Barnett, Sheppard and Moats, as well as nickel 'backer Bryan Scott and draft picks Nigel Bradham and Tank Carder - look like strong bets to make the team. It's likely that the Bills will keep at least one more linebacker beyond that group, and with Morrison and McKillop looking like the leaders in that race, it's very noteworthy that the veteran Morrison has begun taking reps away from the younger McKillop.
