The Buffalo Bills play the Detroit Lions tonight with plenty on the line for players on the roster bubble. This is the 32nd pre-season meeting between the two teams, forever linked by former Lions minority owner Ralph Wilson, the only owner the Bills have ever known.
The last regular season meeting was a memorable one, with the Bills winning a 14-12 decision to break Chan Gailey's 0-8 start with the Bills. Fred Jackson had two touchdowns (one rushing, one receiving) and 170 yards of total offense to overcome ten receptions for 128 yards by Calvin Johnson on a 323-yard passing day from Shaun Hill. The series is tied all-time at 4-4-1, with the draw coming in the teams' first meeting in 1972.
With starters expected to see only a handful of plays tonight, an injury update isn't too noteworthy. The biggest news from the Lions is their running back situation. Three of their top four running backs are injured and won't play, so expect to see a heavy dose of soon-to-be-suspended Mikel Leshoure as well as former Bills runner Joique Bell. On Buffalo's side of the equation, Erik Pears, Mark Anderson, Terrence McGee and Ron Brooks will all miss tonight's festivities.
