Entering Week 3, the AFC East is one of two NFL divisions (the other being the NFC North) that, at this early juncture in the season, holds no undefeated teams nor any winless teams. All four division rivals are 1-1 after two weeks of play.
Technically, however, the New York Jets are in first place thanks to a perfect divisional record, while the Buffalo Bills are in fourth thanks to their divisional loss. Similarly, the New England Patriots sit ahead of the Miami Dolphins thanks to a better conference record.
This week, the Bills will travel to take on the Cleveland Browns as they try to keep pace in a very tight divisional race thus far. An AFC East Week 3 preview is after the jump.
Bills (1-1) at Browns (0-2) (Bills are early 2.5-point favorites)
After a horrid Week 1, the Bills got back on track with a blowout 35-17 win over Kansas City last week. The Browns, meanwhile, are 0-2 - but they've lost their two games (to Philadelphia and Cincinnati) by a mere eight points combined. Cleveland could be a much better litmus test for Buffalo than KC was; the Browns are actually playing good football at the moment, and this is a road game for Buffalo, who have lost eight straight road contests.
Jets (1-1) at Dolphins (1-1) (Jets are early 2.5-point favorites)
By way of their 48-28 opening day win over Buffalo, the Jets are the current division leaders, but they were handled with relative ease by Pittsburgh this past weekend. Miami, meanwhile, is coming off of a huge 35-13 win over Oakland in their home opener; it was also the first win for rookie head coach Joe Philbin. A win in South Florida would make the Jets 2-0 in the division and give them a fast start in this race.
Patriots (1-1) at Ravens (1-1) (Ravens are early 2.5-point favorites)
New England dominated Tennessee in the season opener, but was upset by a visiting (and plucky) Arizona squad 20-18 on Sunday, spoiling their home opener. Now they must travel to Baltimore, playing like one of the best teams in football, in a rematch of last year's AFC Championship Game. This will be your Sunday Night Football matchup, and it should be a doozy.
