The remaining significant hole on Doug Marrone's coaching staff has been filled, as the Buffalo Bills announced the hiring of Pat Morris today. The 58-year-old Morris will add some seasoning to the tenderfoot Bills coaching staff as offensive line coach.
Morris has coached the offensive line before with the San Francisco 49ers (1997 to 2003), Detroit Lions (2004 to 2005), Minnesota Vikings (2006 to 2010) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2011). He spent the 2012 season out of football after the ouster of Raheem Morris in Tampa. His teams have won the league rushing crown three times: 1998, 1999 and 2007. He also has 21 additional years of experience in the college ranks.
He played football at the University of Southern California from 1972 to 1975 before hopping on their coaching staff as a graduate assistant. He has no ties to Syracuse University, which might make some folks happy.
While it's still probable that the team will add another coach or two (there's room for an offensive quality control assistant, at minimum), the major pieces of Marrone's coaching staff are now in place - and if player evaluations have not already started, they likely will in very short order. Here's a recap of the staff:
