Buffalo Bills Will Interview Mike McCoy This Weekend, Per Report

John Wawrow of The Associated Press is reporting that the Buffalo Bills will interview Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy for their vacant head coaching position this weekend. The interview will take place in Denver, likely after the Bills have finished conducting interviews in their current location: Arizona.

McCoy, 40, ranks among the biggest names amongst current NFL assistants for head coaching vacancies. A long-time assistant to John Fox in both Carolina and Denver, McCoy burst onto the future head coach scene a year ago, when he modified the Broncos' offense mid-season to fit the playing style of Tim Tebow. With Tebow at the helm (and with a criminally underrated defense), the Broncos overcame a 1-4 start to finish 8-8, win the AFC West and advance to the divisional round of the AFC playoffs.

Any team wishing to hire McCoy - he has plenty of suitors - would need to wait until the Broncos' playoff run concludes this season. He is eligible to interview for jobs through this weekend's set of wild card playoff games, but won't be able to again until either the week before the Super Bowl (a distinct possibility for the AFC's top seed), or when they're eliminated.

McCoy becomes the third Bills head coaching candidate to have an interview scheduled that we know of, joining former Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt - who has already interviewed - and current Cardinals defensive coordinator Ray Horton, who was scheduled to speak with Bills brass this afternoon.
