Signature Stats: Yards Per Route Run | ProFootballFocus.com
Donald Jones ran 402 routes, gaining just 443 yards while T.J. Graham ran 416 for 322 yards. Their average yards per route were two of the ten worst in the NFL this past season.
As Michael Renner points out today in his analysis, this stat has a lot to do with mediocre quarterback play. Larry Fitzgerald is no slouch, but ended up just three spots ahead of Jones due to Arizona's quarterback situation. It's also clearly evident that the Bills employed a short passing game (duh) and got their running backs involved a lot. Jones was targeted on just one of every six routes. Graham was targeted on one of every seven. That's a lot of downfield running, especially for Graham, for little return. Nix and staff eyeing LBs, QBs and WRs - BuffaloBills.com
"Nix validated to Buffalobills.com that linebacker, quarterback and wide receiver are the top priority positions for Buffalo."
Nix also explains how they bring in the coaches during early February to see what kind of ideal guys they are looking for. With the focus being on these three position, one would hope they are intent on re-signing Andy Levitre and Jairus Byrd so as not to add two more holes to this list.
