On the day that he was fired as head coach of the Chicago Bears, Lovie Smith made it known that he was interested in talking to the Buffalo Bills about their head coaching vacancy. He will get that opportunity this weekend, per a WGR 550 report.
It's not precisely clear when or where, exactly, that interview might go down. The team's search committee - featuring Russ Brandon, Buddy Nix, Doug Whaley and Jim Overdorf - has already reportedly scheduled interviews with Oregon head coach Chip Kelly on Friday, and will speak with Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy sometime this weekend, as well. (It's also not clear what the time might be doing today, as they've already wrapped up interviews with Ken Whisenhunt and Ray Horton.)
Either way, the Bills are apparently reciprocating Smith's interest. The 54-year-old coach was 81-63 in nine years as Chicago's head coach, making the playoffs three times, going 3-3 in post-season play and earning a berth in Super Bowl XLI.
That brings Buffalo's candidate list up to at least five names: Kelly, Smith, Whisenhunt, Horton and McCoy. More names may be added to that list before all is said and done.
