NFL Hall of Fame 2013: Marv Levy On Andre Reed's Credentials

Former Buffalo Bills wide receiver Andre Reed will know on Saturday evening whether or not he will get the call from the Pro Football Hall of Fame to be a member of the Class of 2013. One Hall of Famer thinks he belongs, and it should come as no surprise to Bills fans.

"I certainly do [believe they belong in the Hall of Fame]," Marv Levy told Buffalo Rumblings in December about Reed and teammate Steve Tasker. "You might say it's a prejudicial opinion because he coached them, but they do."

Levy coached Reed from halfway through his second season (1986) through four AFC Championships, until Levy retired following the 1997 season. That includes all seven of Reed's Pro Bowl appearances and all four of his 1,000-yard seasons.

"We used to call Andre Reed 'YAC' - not because he talked a lot - yards after catch," said Levy, turning his attention to Reed. "I don't think there's ever been a better yards after catch receiver. Some fourth-rounder out of Kutztown State was the third-most prolific receiver in the history game by the time he retired, and he had to share receiving with guys like [Hall of Famer James] Lofton and [Don] Beebe. I do believe they belong in, and and they were a credit to the game - high character individuals."

Tasker was eliminated in the vote to determine the 15 finalists earlier this month. Reed is among the final 15 who will be whittled to 10 before a final vote on Saturday to determine the five presumed modern era inductees.
