New Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone is busy conducting interviews for his major coaching assistants; once the staff-building process is well underway, he'll begin his evaluations of Buffalo's roster.
Here at Buffalo Rumblings, we're not busy interviewing assistant coaches, so we'll slowly start rolling out our own roster breakdowns - in a bi-annual series called State of the Buffalo Bills Roster - today. With this very post, in fact, which takes a look at the total number of plays each member of the Bills played in 2012 (as well as a few players that are no longer Bills).
All snap count data was pulled from game books provided at NFL.com and made cumulative to reflect for the full 16-game schedule. Offense and defense are broken down by position for a clear look at how players within certain areas stacked up against one another, while the special teams breakdown is simply a ranking from most snaps to least. Rest assured that every snap is accounted for; we double- and triple-checked the math.
This data will serve as the basis of our roster evaluations, which will start tomorrow. Until then, feel free to pore over the data yourselves and draw a few early conclusions about what we might have to say about certain players or positions.
