Last week, Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus was benched for the first quarter of their win over Miami for a violation of team rules. Reports noted that Dareus was late for team meetings, leading to the discipline. Today, the team announced Dareus was benched for the entire first half, for the same violation of team rules, according to Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com.
Bills head coach Doug Marrone worked hard to turn around the Syracuse Orange in his previous coaching stint, turning over the roster considerably with his discipline. He worked his team in the elements and weeded out players he considered soft. These two suspensions are both an extension of that.
Both Marrone and Dareus provided very little information following last week's game, without elaborating on the single-quarter punishment. They will both probably toe the company line again.
"It's not really nothing important. It's just a quarter," Dareus said a week ago. "You suffer your consequences, roll on with them, do the best you can."
Maybe he'll change his tune following this game and the stepped up punishment.
